Setting up a foundation

Has anyone examined how to set up a foundation?

I am at a for-profit hospital. As such, we get comments from people who would like to donate because we have a bloodless program. As a hospital, we cannot accept such donations. If a foundation were found locally, any donations could be administered to cover patients who cannot afford (let's use as an example) Procrit.

Any comments or suggestions would be most helpful.
