A new risk associated with transfusions
Quote:
Female Plasma May Be Linked To Mysterious Lung Condition
Health officials point to risks associated with transfusions ...
Ask about blood safety and most people think of HIV or other diseases... Today the top threat is TRALI, or “transfusion-related acute lung injury,” in which transfusions trigger reactions that fill patients' lungs with fluid, leaving them gasping for air...

Another good reason to avoid transfusions.

risk with blood transfusions
Yes my friend you are right, because blood product transfusions sometimes cause transfusion reactions. There are several types of reactions and they vary in their severity. Some reactions may occur as soon as the transfusion is started, while some take several days or longer to develop.

Perfusionist Training in Blood Management
Hi Sulman,
While there is no specific training program for perfusionists in blood management, the AmSECT New Advances in Blood Management meeting has been an excellent venue for learning blood management techniques and methodology. The perfusionist is but one individual in the process which must be a total system, door to door concept in blood management. All physicians, nurses, perfusionists, lab personel, nutrition, rehabilitation and administration have to be involved in the blood management care of the patient to have this work. There are specialists like myself that offer services in training for blood management for each specialty and the total system concept with the application of blood management.

Blood transfusion risks
Unfortunally, it won't be the last one.
I have a couple of medical problems due to a blood transfusion I had, when I was a child. No matter what they say or do, they won't never be safe.

3/2/2008: TO HARRY 121: You have posted at the bottom left of your post that: "Phentermine is good". What does phentermine (a diet pill) have to do with no blood? Is there some connection you see? I don't see that phentermine could help someone going through a lung problem caused by taking a blood transfusion. Post if there is some connection please.

3/2/2008: To: JLaBastida: If you don't mind disclosing, how old were you when you received your transfusion? What types of problems have you had since, and, at what ages did each occur? My own Father had blood transfusions and multiple side-effects. What is the single most serious complication you had (or side-effect). How long after the initial blood transfusion did it take place? Thanks if you want to email me privately, I 'm pretty sure my email is on my
id page. 21stCentury end message.
