this became an issue for me when my wife was out running, she was clipped by a car. She often times woud go running without any ID on her. I encouraged her to always wear the tags and carry the card. It appears that with peoples busy life style especially in SoCal their are many area's you cannot carry your card. So this was the best I could come up with. Any other suggestions with what is on the card and tag?

In Oct 2008 I had an elective surgery done on my right arm. I had turned in and talked to my primary surgeon about no blood or any of the four main parts of whole blood. He agreed completely.
However, just before being carted into the operating room a nurse said I must sign a form stating "NO BLOOD." She said just sign here. I told her I needed to read it first. In the very first line in the first paragraph there was a part of the sentence that said: "in the event of some problem and at the decision of the primary surgeon blood maybe used."
I had my wife read this also. I took a red pen from the nurse and with 2 red lines crossed out this part of the sentence, and then my wife and I wrote in our initials to show we both did not agree with this part of the legal form.
The nurse said I couldn't do this as this was a form that belonged to the hospital. I told her no, it's a legal contract just as you would sign if buying a car or a home, you as the buyer have the legal right to take out or put in anything you want.
She went and got the head nurse and had her come to the bed where she showed her what I had done on the hospitals form. The head nurse said that he is correct he can put in or take out anything he wants as it is a legal document.
So my point to anyone going to have surgery be sure and "READ" anything before you sign it from the hospital as you are signing a legal contract, and when you do it will over-ride you doctors directives and other JW's forms you gave to them. This way they have a way to fall back on and state you signed the form before surgery to allow the doctor to decide what was best for you while you were unconscious, at his decision.
I had something happen like this when I had my hysterectomy last December. I can not strongly enforce this enough "READ EVERYTHING" especially everything that you must SIGN!!!

This is a very interesting thread. My main fear is driving in my car, getting into a car accident and somehow my purse is nowhere to be found. That is where all my medical information is. As soon as I put on my seat buckle, I also buckle up my purse. I am almost positive that the EMT's will search for a lady's person for needed information. But not to the point where they lose focus. I keep telling myself, something as simple as a bracelet would be most handy. Like anything else though...some day I'll get to it.

Jehovah Witnesses and No Blood Cards

I think the necklace and bracelet ideas are good to have as well as the card. I am going to tell my JW family members here in the US that in addition to their wallet cards, they should have one of the others as well.

I think it is important to have something in more than one place. If the wallet is not accessible or lost. Also if something happens and the necklace or bracelet is missing. I thought the idea of having something in the car another good idea.

I am not a JW, but I will not take blood either.

I would like a necklace to, it's easier to put those on in a hurry.
Thanks
I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses, also. Where did you find that bracelet? How can I get one?

thanks!

I'm sorry kbco, I haven't been on in awhile. I got my noblood braclet at: MJC Products Store The one pictured is the smaller oldstyle braclet. The new one is very large and has a srtonger chain. If you have small wrists then you will need to have the chain shortened. If you wear it all the time, be sure not to wear it in when you bathe. It starts showing the wear if you do, and you will need a new one.

I also got a silver dog tag style noblood necklace at stoops. Thank you for that Jimbo.
