New Platelet Booster Submitted to FDA

Glaxo Submits Promacta to FDA

By KEVIN KINGSBURY and ELENA BERTON
December 20, 2007 7:42 a.m.

GlaxoSmithKline PLC filed for U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of its blood-platelet booster drug Promacta, which a study has shown sustains increased platelet count during long-term treatment.
The company had been expected to make its filing by year-end.
Known generically as Eltrombopag, the drug works by stimulating production of platelets in the bone marrow of patients suffering from chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura, or ITP. The ailment causes an increased risk of bruising and bleeding.
Preliminary results from an continuing late-stage trial of Promacta were presented last week at the American Society of Hematology meeting in Atlanta. The treatment also showed it was well tolerated in the 94 patients taking part in the study, GlaxoSmithKline said.
Currently undergoing late-stage trials, the treatment is expected to be launched as Revolade in Europe, where marketing approval is expected to be sought next year. Analysts have estimated the product, which has also shown promising efficacy on hepatitis C patients with ITP during mid-stage clinical trials, could have a market opportunity of around $3 billion after it is launched.

Hi,
I am Melissa Loyd and I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses from Tx.I was in the Baylor Hospital at Dallas Tx for a month because I had ITP.I had lots of good doctors that became my favorites doctors but for two of them. One that worked under one of my favorite blood doctor which is an jerk and the other one that help out run the hospital which he is an jerk too.One night those two forsed blood transfusion on me when I was sleeping and I didn't know about it until the next day when my dad and mom and one my elders told me about it.I got pretty mad at the blood doctor and the one that run the hospital but play it cool. But showed those two whats what by fighting back to get well. With the help of my friends and Jehovah God.But when I was in the Baylor Hospital they gave me lots and lots pred. The doctors had to take my spleen out.Even though I have no spleen at all my ITP still makes my right cheek turns burning red and my ear but I got use to it though and I have really good doctor at Brownwood so thats good and he cares alot and he is funny too. From this day I still keep up with some of my favorite doctors and nurses from Baylor Hospital on email. One of my favorite doctors is now working at the Bloodless Hospital at GA and the other is an doctor at Austin.I whish some body discover Eltrombopag for ITP when I was in the Baylor Hospital.
