'Bring your own blood' proposed

Patients may in future be advised to bring their own supply of blood to the UK to reduce their risk of vCJD infection if they need a blood transfusion there.

Minutes from the Department of Health's CJD Advisory Group and correspondence between the National Treatment Purchase Fund and the Blood Bank indicate that while the risk for patients travelling to the UK who may need transfusions is small it is still being taken seriously.
