Looks like those who are arguing for a blood transfusion because of a possibliity of large blood loss during a tracheostomy are just over-acting or they just don't know what the procedure is. I have given anesthesia to a lot of patients who had had a tracheostomy and in all of these cases no blood was needed. Blood loss was as small as 20 ml and as much as a hundred ml.
Anyway, this case shows the importance of carrying a Medical Directive or a will; and even in our country where hospital administrators don't seek court orders to administer a transfusion.
