Blood Shortage Update

While we remember those who have lost their lives this Memorial Day, we can't forget those who still need our help. For the past week, blood donations have been at an all-time low, but thanks to you, the supplies are slowly being replenished.
Over the weekend, places like Memorial Health and the American Red Cross held blood drives, asking people to give the gift of life.

Area blood banks are low and need donations especially from people with blood types O-positive and O-negative.

While many people answered the call to donate, more is needed. "We are somewhat out of the woods, but not completely," said Kristie Waterfield with Memorial Health. "We still have today to get through and make sure we have supplies for the rest of the week."

If you would like to help, the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive at the blood center in Savannah today until 7pm. The American Red Cross Blood Center is located at 25 Tibet Avenue (at Abercorn Street) in Savannah. Their phone number is 912.961.5758.

Memorial Health University is also always taking donations. The Savannah Community Blood Bank donor room is located near the Medical Center Pharmacy at Memorial Health University Medical Center, 4700 Waters Ave. They take blood donations every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9am to 5pm, and Wednesdays 10am to 6pm.
