Fairview Hospital to Be Worldwide Center for Bloodless Medicine
12/20/2005
The Center for Advanced Bloodless Medicine and Surgery (CABMS) at Fairview Hospital has been selected by Hemoconcepts, a world-renowned leader in the development of blood conservation programs, to become one of three proposed centers in the world to host the Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Institute (BMSI).
In response to the skyrocketing costs of blood, severe national blood shortages and the growing knowledge of deleterious transfusion effects there has been a demand for an organized educational approach in the field of blood management. Since 1999, the BMSI has educated hundreds of physicians and nurses on the fundamentals of blood management and how to successfully manage a blood conservation program. Fairview Hospital was chosen based on the reputation its bloodless program has established in the medical community and because of its nationally recognized results.
Fairview Hospital's staff is among the list of distinguished faculty: Glen Koyl, CCP, Joseph Thomas, RN, BSN, and Richard Treat, MD.
The next class of students is scheduled January 9 through 13. Students are expected from all over the world, including two physicians from Saudi Arabia.
Congratulations to the Center for Advanced Bloodless Medicine and Surgery at Fairview Hospital for their continued commitment to being one the world's leaders in blood conservation education and research.
