WHO says 82% world population still suffer the lack of satisfactory and safe blood.

World Health Organization (WHO) says that voluntary and regular blood donators have saved thousands of lives, but 82% world population still suffer the lack of satisfactory and safe blood.

WHO made the remarks at the celebration of the second World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) on June 14th.

Head of the World Health Organization Lee Jong-wook said blood transfusion safety is a basic element in all countries' hygiene systems. Yet so fat only 40 countries have set up voluntary blood donatin systems, and less than 30% countries across the world have nationwide blood donation service systems. Most countries still depend on paid blood donation or patients' families for blood donation.

WBDD provides the opportunity to raise awareness of the need for blood and blood donors, and an important part of the strategy to reduce transmission of serious illnesses like HIV/AIDS.
