Hemobag Continued Success

Colleagues,

I was compelled to share yet another great success with our use of the Hemobag which allows for the concentration of autologous whole blood. We performed a CABG x 3 procedure on a 60 y/o male, which was an aborted OPCAB attempt. The results were as follows for the Hemobag autologous whole blood infusion end product of 1150ml.
Platelet count: 430K/mm3
Fibrinogen: 972mg/dl
HCT: 56%
Total Protein: 13.6G/dl
Albumin: 5.7G/dl
Factor VII Assay: 223%
These results were verified by the lab, which had never experienced Fibrinogen levels such as this! Of particular note was the 300% increase in Factor 7 Assay activity level. The patient was transferred out of ICU on post-op day #1, and was discharged without receiving any bank blood products. Our facility’s blood transfusion threshold protocol are being revised due to the continue success of now almost 40 cases. We truly believe that the term “Whole Blood Salvage” is being redefined.

Sincerely,

Scott R. Beckmann, C.C.P.
