I'm new here

Hello all. I am a mother of a 13 year old sickle cell patient. My daughter has an enlarged spleen and may need surgery to remove it. The doctors are pushing blood. They say they need to transfuse whole "healthy blood" to minimize the sickle cells and their effect. Is there anyone out there that has any information about sickle cell disease and bloodless medicine? We are located in Northern Virginia. Thank you in advance.

Sickle Cell

I would try contacting Rosa Acosta at St. Christophers Hospital for Children. She is the coordinator of their blood conservation program. Their medical director, Dr. Dampier has years of treating children with sickle cell.

E-mail: rosa.acosta@tenethealth.com

I am sure she will be a big help or direct you to someone who can help.
I hope all goes well.
