Department of Experimental Anesthesia, Erasme University Hospital, Brussels, Belgium Red blood cell (RBC) transfusion is usually administered to improve oxygen delivery (DO2)in order to sustain tissue oxygen demand. However, this practice is not supported by firm clinical or experimental data.
