Colloids



Intravenous fluids composed of water mixed with very small particles of proteins or other materials. These small particles do not dissolve in water. Colloids are are used to maintain blood protein levels that stabilize fluid balances and circulation volume in the body. Colloids include dextran, gelatin, hetastarch, and pentastarch.
