Atherosclerosis
Atherosclerosis is a form of coronary artery disease in which fatty deposits build up in the lining of the arteries. The deposits, also called plaques, are raised patches of cholesterol, lipids, and cellular debris that narrow and damage the walls of the arteries. When a coronary artery, which supplies blood to the heart, becomes narrowed or blocked, the heart is deprived of blood, and this can cause a heart attack.
