Stem Cell Factor: (SCF)
Stimulates the bone marrow to produce a type of progenitor blood cell called a stem cell. These stem cells develop to form a variety of more mature cells including red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. SCF works in combination with other growth factors. SCF can accelerate recovery from chemotherapy by lessening the risk of infection, anemia and thrombocytopenia (too few platelets). Synonyms for Stem Cell Factor are Mast Cell Factor and Steel Cell Factor. SCF is currently in clinical trials.
