Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP)
This is an x-ray examination of the kidneys, ureters, and bladder. It requires the injection of about four ounces of contrast material, commonly called a dye, into a vein in your arm. This medication is distributed within seconds through the bloodstream and is filtered by the kidneys and flows down the ureters into the bladder. The contrast material makes these organs visible on x-rays of the abdomen.
