I was one of many friends of Ron Lapin. My understanding is that he died of an overdose of prescription drugs. He was relatively young when he died. He was survived by a son. Where his son is I do not know.

the end

Just before his death Ron called me. He wanted to know whether I was interested in purchasing his 800 NoBlood toll free number. He seemed distant and desperate. I supposed he was having money troubles as he was facing legal troubles and a divorce.

I met many individuals who thought Ron was in God's right hand pocket (so to speak). I met others who thought they were treated unethically by Ron.

I did not know him only read the book No Mans blood. From what I read he did great work in helping Jehovah's witnesses to have no blood surgery. We could do with a few people like him here in IRELAND as it is nearly impossible to have no blood treatment especially if you are a jw. Well over a hundred people have died here from getting contaminated blood=products, and how many jw's have died from refusing blood i can't recall any. Every hospital in Ireland should be given a copy of the [{New Scientist 26 april Magazine issue 2657}

BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS FOUND TO HARM SOME PATIENTS.

DAVID.

Generally, the resistance to blood management in Ireland is appalling. I am certain there are physician's who are willing to treat JW's. Is that true? How are they treated by the establishment?

The HLC have done good work with the hospitals and have physicians who will treat jw's, but when any problems arise with cases involving maternity or children ,the hospital will go to the courts and get an order to transfuse blood.Having said that, the last case involving new born twins the judge said only as a last resort should the child be given blood, they were to try non blood products first. He also aid that this case should not havecome before the courts, it could have been dealt with the hospital and parents=HLC. So hopefully things will get better and there will be more non blood surgery=treatment available to the public here in Ireland.

Regards,

David

Good News

The fact that the court seems to be loosening up (at least in that area) is very positive. That is what happened in the US as the blood issue evolved.

In this country a growing number of leading physician's also stepped up at a critical time. They spoke out against the established blood therapy as the medical community was using outdated practice guidelines. Wouldn't it be great if physician's in Ireland began doing the same?

Some of us began "importing" these physician champions into regions where we were working to establish a more enlightened approach to transfusions. Often we were supporting the development of a blood management program as well.

All the best,

Jan

I was one that was treated by Dr. Lapin. He was a great man and a very talented surgeon. I can not imagine him taking an overdose. I know that the state finally was able to pull his license and that did upset him very much. His work was his life. He spoke with us about what the state had been trying to do for several years. They were not happy that he was helping so many Witnesses. I feel that he died of a broken heart - but that is only my opinion.

Dr Lapin was a good man , a pioneer who delved into the unknown, he helps many JWs in their quest for medical treatment that required a stance of no blood. I first seen him in a video, I cant remember the name of it but it left a lasting impession on me. I wrote to him thanking him for his work and had a reply, this was just over 15years ago now. Whilest he has died he is always rememberd.

I was privileged to attend one of Dr Ron Lapins public meetings in New Zealand and private meeting later. He was inspirational and promoted non blood therapies. I believe he was misunderstood by his medical peers due to his deviation from the popular use of blood at that time.
