I am new to this forum and am glad to have found the NB site through a Google search. Currently I am a new RN and completing my BSN education by, in part, doing a independent research paper on blood fractions. Thus far, I have researched and written about albumin and immune globulins (Ig). Could you clear up for me a question I had--does the measles vaccination (routine) differ from the measles Ig vaccination in that the Ig only is derived from plasma antibodies? The routine MMR vaccine may or may not contain some human albumin (
MMR the facts) but this is not the measles vaccine that you refer to in your immunoglobulins fractions page, is it? Also could you help me with another small detail? In the Nov. 2006 OKM pg. 5 it states that up to 4% of plasma is albumin. Is this figure determined by taking the percentage of proteins in plasma (approx 7-8%) and multiplying it by the percentage of albumin in the plasma proteins (approx 60%)??? Furthermore in a 5% or 25% albumin infusion, would the percentage of albumin here be 0.05 or 0.25 x 0.04= 0.2% to 1% albumin in the infusion or are my calculations incorrect? If you have any other blood fraction references that you think to be helpful, I would appreciate knowing about them.
