A few years ago I attended a bloodless seminar hosted by the Englewood Hospital. One of the speakers alluded to the advancemrnts made in synthtic fraction research. How far have we come in this area?

Recombinant activated clotting factors VII, VIII and IX have been around for a few years, and more recently, recombinant factor X. Other proteins of the coagulation system now available in recombinant form include protein C and tissue plasminogen activator (TVA).
Recombinant human albumin is also available, and at least one pharmaceutical company is working to develop a recombinant human hemoglobin.
