If you mean is this a site exclusively for Jehovah's Witnesses, then no. Please review our mission statement to get a more accurate picture of what the purpose of NoBlood!is.

There are many individuals who are not Jehovah's Witnesses who frequent the noblood site. Perhaps out of curiosity and perhaps due to the fact that they genuinely do not want any blood administered. Any reasons forthcoming should be respected, especially when concerns and viewpoints are aired on this subject. Personally, I am amazed at the number of potential life threatening illnesses that cannot be detected in the blood in the early stages and no mention is noted on this medical fact - not theory.

In my last 3 months of contacting and researching the Hospitals on the noblood website, I have come across several people who I have spoken to about blood transfusions that are NOT Jehovah's Witnesses, these persons have told me first hand that they would refuse a blood transfusion because they know the risk factors versus the chances that they would take in submitting to a transfusion. They also flat out have told me that being in the medical field that they know what these people do to their bodies prior to donating blood to the blood banks. So you can see that it is not JUST Jehovah's Witnesses that refuse blood transfusions and so this site is for everyone.

As a registered nurse, I have been called in on, been assigned or have been on the health care team of over 600 patients who have refused blood transfusions. The vast majority were not Jehovah's Witnesses.

When a patient in another part of the hospital needed a nurse to manage their case, the doctor would write an order for me to follow that patient through out their hospital stay.

The lowest blood count of any patient I cared for was a man who had a count of 2.9. Many were in the low 4's. The oldest was 87. A very few were pressured into getting a transfusion. Not one of them died. All, including the 87 year old got out of the hospital faster than anyone expected.

In the case of the 87 year old, the doctor at the small rural hospital drastically reduced the amount of blood he gave. He even stopped re-infusing blood in the knee patients. Two things happened. His PA noted that they had improved healing across the board for all such patients and the nurses stated they loved it because it lightened their work load. None of these were Jehovah's Witnesses.

Several patients claimed to be Jehovah's Witnesses including a doctor. They were not. It is interesting, on asking them why, they stated it was because they did not want any blood transfusions.

One study from several years ago found that 19-24% of the population would prefer to avoid blood transfusions. That is a whole lot more population than there are witnesses.

The numbers indicate that there is a lot of interest beyond that of Jehovah's Witnesses.
