Assignment help

Hello

I am a nursing student and am studing a module on holistic care, to complete the module I need to produce a poster, handout & a report. I have choosen to look at spirituality which is such a broad topic so have narrowed it down to looking at the spiritual needs of people when they have refused a blood transfusion. I can not focus too much on the alternatives to receiving a blood transfusion as that would be considered traditional medicine, but I can look at the spiritual needs of the patient as well as the ethical and legal implications. I also need to relate the report to nursing practice. I thought about using the poster & handout to explain why no blood.

I hoping someone might have some links to some sites or information regarding this topic

Thanks

Stace

Hi Stace,

If you e-mail me through No Blood i can put you in touch with sources and people that could help in your assignment. My Masters degree explored the same topic.

Best regards

Robert

Thumbs up

Having seen your poster and handouts, let me be the first to tell you I think you've done a fantastic job. Many people unfortunately are still in the dark to the options available to them via bloodless surgery and I am pleased that you have been able to redress the balance a little in this regard. Your presentation poster is eye-catching and thought-provoking and will go a long way in dispelling the fears some have. Nurses are pivitol in being a patients first point of contact at times when they often may feel frightened and unsure of the future, this is compounded when blood is not an option in any proposed surgery. If your poster/presentation only reaches the minds of a couple of your fellow nursing colleagues, and they in turn can better understand a patient under their care in the future who refuses blood on religious/medical reasons, then thats a fantastic success.
I'm proud of you.
Scott

Stace,
I have a book in my library entitled, "Culture & Nursing Care: A Pocket Guide." It breaks done the cultural & spiritual needs of a wide variety of patients. You can find more information on the book at http://nurseweb.ucsf.edu/www/book4.htm I also have a couple of articles available about the role of nurses as patient advocates and adhering to the rights of patients. I just don't know how to get them to you. Send me an email at jessica.varisco@christushealth.org and I will scan the articles and email them to you.
