Hello All,

Apologies if this is redundant but thought it might be useful to some of those in the early stages of setting up programs.

Question blood refusal form

I too am looking for examples of blood refusal forms that would address autotransfusion/cell saver as a separate question. I wonder if an additional question should be asked regarding whether or not they would accept albumin, immune globulins, or hemophilic preparations. thank you Kelly

Blood refusal Patient Policy

I have been asked to assist in the development of a policy that addresses admission/ identification of patients who refuse blood products. If anyone has policies that they are willing to share, please Private message me.

Meet the Staff: The University Center for Bloodless Surgery and Medicine at University Hospital in Newark NJ

Referring to a comment made in the page above. There are legal precedants where a pregnant woman cannot be given blood even with a viable fetus. Perhaps it is the law of the state of New Jersey I'm not sure.

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for or not.

Bloodless Policy: The University Center for Bloodless Surgery and Medicine at University Hospital in Newark, NJ

Below is further info on the policy

Policies can also state that with children two physicians at least one or both being consulting physicians, should examine the child before obtaining court orders and the parents will be informed of any intentions to obtain an order.

This Review Article "Blood-Management Programs: A clinical and Administrative Model with Program Implementation Strategies" is a fantastic article to read for hospitals who are planning to set up Blood Management Programs.

Thanks for posting it.
