Value Chain Analysis For Blood Management: Issues & Opportunities

March 27, 2007 at 02:00PM ET

With the cost of blood and blood products more than double what they were just a few years ago (more than $200 for a unit of red blood cells), effective blood management programs are more important than ever. Both blood collection centers and hospitals must find ways to cut costs while at the same time adding value. But where do the best opportunities lie?

Join us during this 90-minute national audio conference to find out how your organization can save tons of money through better blood management programs. Our experts will discuss the value chain for blood management from the perspective of a collection center, a hospital, and a consultant.

During the program, you’ll:

Get insight into why the cost of blood and blood products continues to rise

Discover the benefits of better blood management from several different perspectives

Learn how third-party consultants can help identify issues and opportunities within the value chain and serve as catalysts for process improvement

Find out how your organization can save thousands – even millions – of dollars through better blood management programs

You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions in our interactive Q&A portion of the program. Take this hassle-free approach to learning ways to control the cost of blood and blood products and find out where the best opportunities are for savings. And you can invite your entire staff – for one low fee.

BMS conference

Jan, did you go to this or link up or get notes?
I would be interested in any feedback and how they look at the less blood/ no blood fields being created almost weekly.

Thanks for any info you may have.

Value Chain

I didn't attend. I was simply promoting the event. I know Tim Hannon who was one of the presenters. Along with others he is helping prove the value of managing (lowering in many cases) blood use. The current approach is not total absence of blood in medical surgical care. However blood use can be cut drastically by developing best practice guidelines. Approach a doctor and say zero blood and his eyes glaze over. Tell him optimal blood use or best practice and he will perk up. Physicians like Doctor Hannon are proving what many of us have been saying for more than a decade; blood transfusion therapy is a tool not a panacea.
