Questionable Safety of Blood Supply

While surfing for info on drugs containing blood fractions I came across a website that made me sit up and take notice. There has been so many reassurances by authorities concerning the safety of the blood supply that the average person might be lulled into a sense of complacency.

There seems to be too many recalls of blood products for this to be accurate. Granted, they were recalled, but how did they get out for distribution in the first place? Something to think about.

Check it out: FDA Enforcement Report Index

Here is a very small sampling of excerpts:
RECALLS AND FIELD CORRECTIONS: BIOLOGICS -- CLASS II

PRODUCT
a) Red Blood Cells, Recall # B-0525-7;
b) Platelets, Recall # B-0526-7
REASON
Blood products, which were possibly contaminated with Enterococcus faecalis, were distributed.

PRODUCT
Recovered Plasma, Recall # B-0480-7
REASON
Blood product, which tested positive for the antibody to the human immunodeficiency virus (anti-HIV-1/2), was distributed.

PRODUCT
Source Plasma, Recall # B-0402-7
REASON
Source Plasma, collected from a donor who was at increased risk for variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD), was
distributed.
VOLUME OF PRODUCT IN COMMERCE
145 units

Nice find Linda. Same reason for the government leveling a fine on the Red Cross several month ago. Another reason to stay away from Blood.
Blood as most in the medical world know, but seem to forget, is a transporter of not only Oxygen but all impurities, bacterial and otherwise that enter the vascular system one way or another and its all packaged neatly by blood banks.
