I forgot to say that when I went to Thailand, I was introduced to a monkey whose job was to harvest coconuts. Monkeys are trained to harvest them so that people don't have to climb the trees.

Monkeys

My husband has THREE controllers for our TV/stereo system. I wonder if I could get a trained monkey who could operate these for me so I could just turn on the stereo? That's a lot easier than climing a tree and harvesting a coconut...

What a wonderful thread !!! Quite interesting and enjoyable !!!! Since Jehovah made the coconut, any deaths must be attributed not to the Creator but to misuse by the humans who haven't thought ahead as to how to use them properly. I seem to remember an article about the many beneficial uses of coir, the fibers of the coconut, in one of the older Awake magazines.

Ahhh....coconut oil and Vitamin D - my two foremost passionate subjects. Coconut oil has gotten a bad rap from the soybean companies years ago. It is no doubt the healthiest fat one can consume as well as cook in. Instead of going into the bloodsteram after consumption it acts like a carbohydrate and goes into the liver for increased energy. After eating coconut oil for a few months, I had blood workup done. My total cholesterol was 246. (doctors would push medication). My HDL was 67. (doctors would now think twice about pushing medication) Why? Dividing the total cholesterol number by the HDL number gives a figure of 3.7. Less than 5.0 does NOT constitute a heart attack risk! No medication needed! All of this because of the two daily tablespoons of coconut oil I had been taking for months prior. To this day, I don't take medication and have been creative in my uses for coconut oil. Vitamin D is another subject. Suffice it to say, 4,000mg is a good amount to take on a daily basis. And may I be allowed to open a can of worms - I personally think that application of sun tan lotion inhibits the formation of Vitamin D to be utilized by the body and in turn may increase the incidence of cancer.

Granted, this subject may not directly apply to the goals of this site, but indirectly - in the future, it very well could be. Preventative medicine is just as important. strongly heard as someone's refusal to accept blood. And most important, both treatment aspects to be respected.

I have multiple sclerosis and Vitamin D is known to be low in almost all MS patients, therefore I supplement all year long. I live in Michigan where the sun is weak and the number of MS patients high.

As for the coconut oil..... a member of my congregation has made popcorn for his group movie nights with coconut oil for a few years and there has not been a rash of heart attacks in the congregation. Hasn't killed him yet either! He's in his 80's.

To All Coconut Lovers

Again this thread has deviated somewhat from the main topic of this site, but that's okay. Rather than hire monkeys to harvest coconuts, which none can be found in the fine state of Oregon, I just order virgin coconut oil from Amazon. Bread tastes sweeter and with a cup of coffee in the morning, what better way to enjoy breakfast. I always find ways to add coconut oil. As one gets older, the skin dries more - but not mine. They say this oil is good as a hair conditioner. I haven't tried that, yet. Like I said, preventative medicine is the best medicine but if something more is needed, than I am glad I have y'all to talk to.

Hi Coconut Milk and TCW???

I read a post on this thread about TCW, what is that?

Does drinking coconut milk buildup the blood volume? if it is isotonic with blood, will it?

And will acids in the stomach cause any useful components to be destroyed

I stay in Scotland and the sunlight is pretty weak and number of MS patients is also high, I am friends with a few JWs who have MS!

They reackon that above Birmingham UK, sunlight is insufficient to get all the required vitamin D from the sun and that you should supplement. Did anyone hear of giving a dose [don't know what it was 10mg sounds familiar of Vitamin D to children, don't know if this is high or even safe or what age group it referred to]

will try follow that up!

interestingly from Google earth Birmingham UK 52.3degrees north [refers to position from equator, moving north increases figure

michigan is only 41.4 degrees north, level with Lazio Italy, well level above equator
check it for yourself on google earth. Don;t know if your vitamin D theory holds up

I checked the temperature of Michigan on a Google app for today [Monday]

High -10 celcius
Low -23 does this make sense? why is the temperature so low, is this what you experience at night in Michigan?

trying to gauge if positions an equal distance from the equator would be the same temperature [in the Northern Hemisphere] but no, Italy high 12 Low -1

the earth is on a 23.5 degree tilt giving seasons

you should keep taking vitamin D if you feel it will benefit you, I'm sure it is more complex than I thought,

Vitamin D

It is a bit off topic for this site, but if you check out the Vitamin D Council website http://vitamindcouncil.org you will find all sorts of current information and research about Vitamin D.
