  • Cryoprecipitate AHF

Fresh frozen plasma (FFP) is separated from a unit of whole blood. When FFP is thawed in the cold, a cryoprecipitate forms that is rich in fibrinogen, factor VIII, von Willebrand factor, factor XIII, and fibronectin. The concentrated precipitate is then suspended in a fluid medium, often plasma. Given to patients with coagulation problems to prevent catastrophic bleeding during surgery or obstetric procedures; also used in the preparation of fibrin glue.
