Worldwide a growing number of medical centers are recognizing the benefits of bloodless medical care. As a result they are seeing the positive result on patient outcomes. Administrators who have supported bloodless coordinators and physicians by supporting a formalized approach to blood conservation are to be commended.

This is the 'age-old' question: What does a hospital do to get on someone's list? The list on BMSI is smaller than other lists because that list includes only hospitals who have sent representatives to BMSI training. There are many more comprehensive programs out there than this list indicates. But no list follows any criteria-to-be-listed so far as I know. It would be much better if program had to meet some sort of standard in order to be listed.

Totally agree Jo. There ought to be a certification process before a hospital claims to have a "blood conservation/avoidance" program. Some say JACHO should take up the cause.

There is a perfectly valid accreditation process based on standards that were developed specifically for Bloodless/Blood Conservation/Blood Management Programs by The Association for Blood Conservation (ABC the former NABMS) The standards are listed on the ABC website: abchq.org

Please note that some hospitals on the list provided no longer have a program.
Additionally, some coordinators listed are no longer there.
This site tries to maintain a current list under Hospitals, as does SABM | Society for the Advancement of Blood Management.

We here at NoBlood have made it a priority to maintain a current list of Hospitals/Medical Centers that provide Bloodless Healthcare. This list can be found at the top of this page along with a list of Bloodless Healthcare professionals. We rely solely on input from our community of NoBlood members to keep this list current.

We also see a need to establish some parameters for listing and identifying the level of Bloodless services offered. We would be happy to enhance our directories accordingly. This can be expedited if someone/others would life to assist in this effort.

We have had an active Bloodless, Blood Conservation Program at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle Washington for 8 years. We are not on the list, what do we need to do to get on the list?
