The medications and techniques that are used to care for a patient without using blood are not special, and so should be covered by most insurances. If you are seeking care at a particular hospital that has a bloodless medicine program, or are wanting to see a particular physician, this is were your choice in insurance will matter. HMO insurances are fairly restrictive-you must use facilities and physicians within their network, and may not be covered for services received out of the particular network. PPO's and POS's generally will have an out of network benefit, but the patient is responsible for more money out of pocket if you choose to go that route. If you are Medicare age, while going with one of the new Medicare HMO's means less out of pocket premiums, your choice of where you can go for your helthcare and who you can see is restricted. If you have a choice, and can afford it, I'd go with the PPO or POS plan, because of the flexability. You'll have to do some research to really be able to determine which plan is best for your particular health needs.
