Question Epogen

My husband is on hemo-dialysis and receives epogen at every treatment, but it causes his blood pressure to go extremely high, even with a hemoglobin of 8.2.
Are there any alternatives for anemia in renal failure. A friend of mine said her husband was on one that was derived from cows blood??

Thank you,
Peggy
