Exclamation is there synthetic albumin?

The doctors want to give my dad synthetic albumin. I have never heard of such a thing. Does it contain a blood fraction?

Many thanks,

Melanie

Yes there is. Visit this website and read about one such product:
Novozymes - Recombumin®

There is also a synthetic albumin derived only from plants called Cellastim made by Invitria - see more info on their website InVitria

an anesthetist recommended giving 2 egg whites three times a day to be eaten to boost blood albumin and reported demonstrated benefit on here, though that many egg whites may cause slight nausea. Egg yolks increase cholesterol levels so don't give them 6, may'be 1 or 2 [restrict egg yolks if they are on a statin especially].

The Oxford handbook of clinical medicine under liver cirrhosis recommends a limited fluid intake [think it may have been near 1.5L as if there is a low albumin then oedema and ascites can result which need to be very slowly drained [check with your Dr]

Albumin can be expensive, egg whites are cheap and contain a natural source of albumin, just check the eggs aren't fertilised as fertilised eggs contain blood!
