Anti-E
Hi
My daughter is 36 weeks pregnant and has been told she has an Anti-E problem and may need the baby's blood to be transfused. I am puzled as to how this works. I thought I understood Anti-D as I am Rh negative (ie have no D gene) and had the Rhogam injections for my own babies. She is therefore Rh positive (ie has a D gene, there is no d gene). I had believed that the reaction occurs because the mother has no D but the baby has and the mother therefore produces antibodies against the babies blood.
Anti-E seems to work differently and I am now confused! Apparently both E and e occur. She has been told that she is E- (ie negative for big E). So it doesn't seem to be a lack of E that is a problem. What does cause the difficulty? Are there E+ genes as well? And looked at like this, presumably there could be an anti-e problem also?
Also, is there anything corresponding to Rhogam for anti-E?
Thanks for any answers
