hi does anyone out there know what the odds of contracting TRALI from blood transfusion in Britain are?
I have got to laugh, as the law and the NMC, in line with the Human Rights Act, advocate patient autonomy, based on informed consent. I have never, in the years I have worked with members of the medical team,ever heard a doctor ask the patient (if the patient is 'needing a top up of blood') if they can administer said blood transfusion, nor do they advice them of the risks; in particular TRALI.
I would be interested in the figures pertaining to this particular incidence
