Hip replacement
Your digging and sharing your information is so helpfull. I have to have a hip replacement here soon, and your site really helps alot. I was to have the surgery in Oct, but found out I was anemic, sooo I have to build up my blood, before I even think about the surgery. Ive heard and read its a very bloody surgery. Does anyone here have any experience with hip replacement surgerys? I would appreciate any input.

Anita, It looks like you are one of Jehovah's Witnesses. If you are please contact your local Hospital Liaison Committee by asking the elders in your congregation for their number. They can help you. Any operation on bone can be bloody but there are many Orthopaedic surgeons that can care for this hip replacement without a transfusion. Please contact the HLC.

Hi Anita,
The advice about talking to the Hospital Liaison Committee is very good indeed. I also am facing hip replacement, and I found some very good information on the web just by typing in "total hip replacement", with good photos and some videos. So just do a little more research at your convenience and you will find out a lot of details. And you could ask different ones in your congregation if they know of any who have had this surgery, and if there are a number of older ones attending there, it is possible if not likely that at least one of them will have had the surgery or know of others who have so that you can talk to someone personally who has undergone this surgery. The main thing is to be absolutely comfortable with your surgeon and to be sure you have chosen an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in total hip replacement, bloodless of course, and does them ALL the time and not just once in a while. The more specialized the specialist, the greater your confidence level will be. I am not sure what your options are in your area, but the HLC can really help guide you in areas about which you are unsure. It is normal to be apprehensive, but the more you know, the better you will feel as the time approaches when your blood counts are up and you and your surgeon decide to proceed.
