Sahar, I don't think 129 is actually that low, I would want to find out what J Malak thinks as he is a paediatrician and childbirth is an operation. The reference range the hospital I work at uses is 150-400 [thousand]

Has any medical professional told you your platelets are low and that they might be a problem? In pregnancy it is crucial to control what goes into your body, I don't think sesame seed oil would be a problem but I don't know. Alcohol must be avoided as much as possible in pregnancy because it can cause Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and craniofacial dysmorphia [the babies look like

You are suffering from thrombocytopenia and want to increase platelet count naturally, this foods causes a count fall: Consume a lot of healthy food. This includes fresh and organic foods. This will help in stimulating the body’s internal mechanism and increase your platelet count,Ensure that you thoroughly wash you wash raw food before consuming them as helminthes, parasites and viruses are known to cause a fall in the platelet count,Use cod liver oil or flax seed oils. They strengthen the immune system, reduce inflammation, improve circulation and increase your ratio of HDL High Density Lipoproteins to LDL Low Density Lipoproteins.

    low platelets

I am a new member and am interested in finding out all i can to help my husband with raising his platelets after chemo treatment with five cladybrine and two retuxin infusions for waldenstrom's. His count is now at 34., it has steadily gone down over the five months. His white blood cells plumetted with the first week of treatment and they stopped it then the WBC went up again and he started again although they are still low 2.0 but not as low. I have made note of RAPUNZEL sesame oil and NUEMEGA. He does not have high cholesterol or high blood pressure. Any further thoughts on either one or anything else?

    Hi everyone,
My mother is currently under going chemotherapy, but also suffers from ITP - a condition which means thats her platelets are consistently and dangerously low. Since she is receiving treatment, her platelets are even further diminshed and her current count stands at 13. The doctors who have been carrying her through chemo prescribed Prednisone, and she has been taking it in order to be able to continue chemo, however the drug does not perform with enough strength and we are looking for something stronger that is able to boost her count high than ever before. We are now about to try Rupunzel Sesame Oil and we are looking into Nuemega.
Is there anyone who has a suggestion on any other, non-harmful, fast acting ways of raising the platelet count for a patient of ITP and chemotherapy ?

    Stimulating Platelet Production

See the attachment below for a current medication. Have your physician inquire of a local PharmD (Pharmacist) for more information.

Promacta® (eltrombopag) to Stimulate Platelet Production in Refractory ITP

On Thursday, November 20, 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Promacta® (eltrombopag) for the treatment of thrombocytopenia in patients with chronic immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) who have had an insufficient response to corticosteroids, immunoglobulins or splenectomy. ITP is a rare medical condition thought to be caused by the body’s immune system which can result in lower than normal platelet levels and subsequent bleeding.
Promacta joins Nplate™ (romiplostim), an injectable medication, which is very similar to Promacta, but is not currently distributed through the typical retail or mail service pharmacy settings. Promacta’s approval has been anticipated for the past several months from the FDA. Both Promacta and Nplate stimulate the thrombopoietin receptor which causes the formation of platelets. The primary difference is that Promacta has an advantage that it can be administered orally, rather than given via an injection.

I am also listing a couple of articles showing products currently in trial.

Stimulating Platelet Production - Oncology and Hematology

    Stimulating Platelet Production

New megakaryocyte-stimulating agents might allow patients with thrombocytopenia to avoid drug toxicity.
Three classes of agents that stimulate platelet production are being developed. These all bind to and stimulate the thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor: TPO peptide mimetics (e.g., AMG 531), TPO nonpeptide mimetics (e.g., AKR-501, eltrombopag), and TPO-agonist antibodies (genetically modified to create small bivalent fragments called minibodies; Blood 2007; 109:4607). All of the agents raise platelet counts in animal models; two, AMG 531 and eltrombopag, are currently in clinical development. AMG 531, when injected weekly for 6 weeks, significantly increased platelet counts in 12 of 16 patients with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP; N Engl J Med 2006; 355:1672).

Novel Drug Boosts Platelet Production, Reversing Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) - New York Presbyterian Hospital

Novel Drug Boosts Platelet Production, Reversing Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP)

As Reported in The New England Journal of Medicine, AMG 531 Appears Safe, Effective Against the Autoimmune Disease

    NEW YORK (Nov 14, 2006)
Attacking a platelet-depleting autoimmune disease in a whole new way, an experimental drug is helping patients with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) once again produce healthy amounts of platelets – with no major side effects.
That's the conclusion of a new, multicenter study led by Dr. James B. Bussel, professor of pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medical College, attending pediatrician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and director of the Hospital's Program for Platelet Disorders.

His team's findings appear in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Please speak with the treating physician regarding options. Do not take anything, even natural supplements before consulting with the physician/pharmacist first.

    Risk versus Benefit

Here is a post that lists three of the current platelet stimulating drugs. http://www.noblood.org/medical-artic...6987#post16987

All have side effects ranging from mild to severe. The decision to use one of these medications must be based on a risk versus benefit analysis.

To illustrate: A lady is walking through the jungle when her path is cut by a very deep ravine. Ahead of her she sees a bridge made of vines and wooden planks. The vines look fairly rotten and some of the planks are missing. She decides the risk of using the bridge is too great. Suddenly a wild boar appears and charges her. She runs across the bridge.

In a life threatening situation one might decide to use a drug with fairly severe side effects. It is a matter of risk versus benefit or in some cases it is risk versus death.

One dangerous side-effet of n-plate type products is the risk of leukemia or relapse provoked by these products. That's why they don't authorize this product for patient with leukemia in France.
