i have recently found this site and have read with interest some of the queries and answers on several subjects including this one. i am a witness and work as a healthcare assistant in a hospital in ayrshire scotland. i have also started my second year of nursing studies. how would i go about finding out whether the hospital i work at has a cell saver; which department would know? i presume that only one theatre would have one.

Operating Room

Usually the cell saver would be located in the operating room, and a perfusionist will usually be in charge of monitoring it and recording the volume of blood collected as well as the amount returned to the patient. There may be more than one cell saver machine available in the hospital, just depends on the size of your hospital and the amount of surgeries being completed per day, etc. If you are looking for a contact person, the manager of the OR is usually a good resource, or if there is a perfusion department, they would have the specific information you are requesting.
