While there is no specific training program for perfusionists in blood management, the AmSECT New Advances in Blood Management meeting has been an excellent venue for learning blood management techniques and methodology. The perfusionist is but one individual in the process which must be a total system, door to door concept in blood management. All physicians, nurses, perfusionists, lab personel, nutrition, rehabilitation and administration have to be involved in the blood management care of the patient to have this work. There are specialists like myself that offer services in training for blood management for each specialty and the total system concept with the application of blood management.
