Question Acceptable Alternatives to Blood Transfusion

Good Day All,

I'm currently studying with the Jw's and I just had some answers in regards to the the blood issue. I am going in for surgery and I want to stand by non blood intervention procedures. Not so much as for religious reason such I am only just studying but for health reason since I know from personal experiance a friend that got and STD when he had to receive a transfussion.
I was trying to do some reasearch on alternatives but just kept getting even more confused. So please can you help me, my question are as follows:
  1. what are acceptable alternatives & procedures? and
  2. which procedures are considered "conciasoues) choices? ( I might have spelled that work wrong)
Basically I want to have with me a list of procedures and medications to discuss with my doctor since my doctor doesn't seem to have a clue to as which alternatives are out there.

Also I know there are some hospitals that have there own bloodless center, does any one know of any in Arizona?

Thanks
