I didn't attend. I was simply promoting the event. I know Tim Hannon who was one of the presenters. Along with others he is helping prove the value of managing (lowering in many cases) blood use. The current approach is not total absence of blood in medical surgical care. However blood use can be cut drastically by developing best practice guidelines. Approach a doctor and say zero blood and his eyes glaze over. Tell him optimal blood use or best practice and he will perk up. Physicians like Doctor Hannon are proving what many of us have been saying for more than a decade; blood transfusion therapy is a tool not a panacea.
