Low Hemoglobin Count with AML (Leukemia)
Female patient, 59 years old, diagonosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Doctor feels chemotherapy not an option at this time because of severly low hemoglobin count of 4.2 and dropping. Patient has received 2 injections of Procrit however the hemoglobin level has continued to drop. Platelets count went from 17,000 to 20, 000 and then back down to 17,000. Patient receive iron pills but the current iron levels in blood are acceptable and so it is deem unadvisable to contain iron treatment regimen. Patient has also been taking chlorophyll as a homeopathic remedy. Doctor feels that there are no other options to raise the hemoglobin count except for transfusion (which is not acceptable). Blood fractions also not acceptable to this patient. Doctor has currently suspended all treatment to raise hemoglobin count. Looking for a strategy to raise hemoglobin count quickly to allow patient to undergo chemo to treat the AML, which is very treatable. Would also be interested in medical contacts with more experience in treating successfully such low blood count.
