Hi, please excuse my clumsiness, I am new to NoBlood. My wife suffers from Lupus and Thalassemia, for which she receives treatment and she can live a relatively normal life. Due to the steroids she takes she has a very low defense system.
At present she is in hospital in an induced coma with a septic shock. Her condition is very critical. The inflamation has gone down due to the antibiotics she received, but her Hb remains very low (3,5 to 4,5). Doctors are very cooperative. She has received two treatments of EPO, 40.000 units each, and her Hb came up insignificantly. The doctors want to continue giving her EPO, but not massive doses, instead they want to spread out the dosis and give her several injections per week. Also they want to inject the EPO partly directly into the vein and part under the skin.
What might cause the noneffective response to the EPO administered? Do we have experts in the forum who are experienced in the treatment of septic shock and can advise us on the condition described? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much for your support.
