pediatric inguinal hernia

My grandson who was 2 weeks old on 03/03/07 is scheduled to have a procedure thursday to repair this hernia. He was born at 36 weeks & weighed 4 lbs 4 oz. Friday he weighed 5lbs 2 oz. He is healthy otherwise & has been home for over a week and a half. We are JW and want to make sure this procedure can be done bloodless. The surgery was scheduled by his Pediatrician. The surgeon is a general thorasic surgeon. We have contacted HLC. Is this a common procdure? Is it normally done without much loss of blood? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you
