Alternative treatments for low albumin

We have an anemic Jehovah's Witness patient (now holding with a Hct of 18) who refuses all minor fractions, albumin is 2.1 and pt is beginning to experience fluid overload with notable peripheral edema. Patient also has poor renal function and is currently hypotensive. I've asked the physician to consider nephrotic syndrome and the use of corticosteroids as a potential treatment if proteinuria exists, and calcium supplementation. Any input appreciated. Thank you! - Rebecca Vigil, RN
