suggestions requested for cancer patient

Hello...
My dear friend has Late Prostate Cancer - grade nine that is subject to metastasis in his bones, Myelodyplastic Syndrome with Refractory aneamia with excess blasts.
He has been on oestrogen & steroids for the passed three months and is now becoming hormone resistant.
It seems that his only alternative is chemo or radiation treatment - he will know this on Friday when he sees his specialist. As the excess blasts are destroying his white cells, the only option the hospital is putting forward is the above supported by transfusions which he will not have.
This does not look promising - but I am hoping someone can give me a few suggestions as to possible options available?
Kind regards
Paul Hickmott
