Hello. What is this correlation attributed to? It sounds as though the author indicates the cause-effect relationship should be investigated. I've read similar research in the past that indicates the sicker patients are the ones who get transfused in the first place, making it a logical outcome that more of them have more complications and more die than the patients who were not as ill. (Often laypeople do not realize a correlation is not the same thing as cause and effect.)
