How does one handle a 14-y.o girl with sickle cell C-trait who needs to have her gall bladder out? Last time she was in the hospital she had massive destruction of her cells and received platelets. Her physician stated at another facility that she would not survive 7 days without blood. She is on daily folic acid. Suggestions in handling this would be appreciated.
