Tetanus Shots
Recently on doing some research I came across information regarding Tetanus Shots and the difference between the booster vaccine that should be kept up to date every 10 years and the tetanus immune globulin which is given in the ED. As this emergent Tetanus shot is an immune globulin and therefore a "blood fraction" it would be important to those who do not want blood fractions to insure that their immunization is up to date as the "passive" booster injection does not contain blood fractions. The website at ACEP.org under Do I Need A Tetanus Shot?
points out that one of the main reasons people die from this disease is because they didn't realize their vaccination had expired and yet too many people especially infants and the elderly still die from tetanus.
