I am an anesthesiologist who practises bloodless medicine and surgery. For the past few years we have had iron sorbitol (Jectofer) as the only parenteral iron available in the Philippines. Very recently, we found it difficult to look for this iron preparation and that ASTRA Pharmaceuticals have stopped marketing it. I am aware of the existence of iron preparations like iron sucrose, iron polymaltose and Ferrlicit. In as much as IV or IM iron is a very important tool in bloodless management of anemia, I wish somebody will help us procure any of these preparations for our patients in the Philippines.
